Steve Neumann grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He went to school at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and later finished up at Black Hills State University where he studied Music and Education. Since then he has been a teacher at both the elementary and high school level, a Peace Corps Volunteer (Macedonia 2006-2008), a high school principal, a piano player in a rock band, and most importantly a husband and father of two. In addition to poultry, his interests include gardening, fishing and music. Unlike many fanciers, Steve never grew up with chickens and started out as a traditional "backyarder" before becoming intensely interested in chicken genetics. For years preceding his interest in breeding standard Ameraucanas, he kept himself busy messing around with breeding projects, an interest that he still considers the highlight of the breeding season.
